OL have decided to take a tough attack on their competitors in Ligue 1, to make those who criticize the Textor method understand that the others were doing much worse.
A year ago to the day, Olympique Lyonnais began its revival in Ligue 1 but still found itself last in the championship, behind Lorient and Clermont, the two teams which finally went down at the end of the exercise. Since then, Pierre Sage has arrived and OL are doing better, with a European place, a Coupe de France final, and a convincing 2024-2025 season for the moment. The purchases made by John Textor have changed the face of the team, and some clubs have complained of seeing a transfigured OL who can thus save themselves at least from January by presenting a completely different team. The regulations obviously authorize the Rhone club to strengthen as they see fit and today, OL are very bothered with the DNCG sanctions against them.
The virtuous model is that of OL
A situation which allows its general director Laurent Prud'homme to recall that OL can only count on its own money, and does not have miracle money from a state like Qatar with PSG, or from a billionaire like OM with Frank McCourt, to absorb the deficit each year. A tackle clearly intended for the two behemoths of Ligue 1 from the Lyon leader. “ An economic model that relies solely on the size of the owner's check, whether billionaire or sovereign state, is a seriously sick model. It is not viable », denounced Laurent Prud'Homme, for whom the model chosen by John Textor is clearly the right one. The solution is thus according to him “ a multi-ownership system, creating value and lasting. Multi-ownership at least has the virtue of being based on economic reasoning. We cannot simply wait and endure a model which consists of demanding an ever-larger check from the shareholder », continued the leader of OL, for whom criticism of the Textor model must fade, especially when OM and PSG live on credit with owners who make up the structural losses each year.
A clear message which in any case reinforces the policy pursued by John Textor, who has already confided on several occasions the substance of his thoughts on the Qatar version of PSG.
