Jorge Sampaoli has decided to change his recruitment priorities for Stade Rennais. The coach, who initially planned to find a new goalkeeper, is now turning to other positions to strengthen during the winter transfer window.
This strategic reorientation is good news for Steve Mandanda, who, at 39, has played 14 matches in Ligue 1 this season. The former French international thus avoids a situation of increased competition for his starting place.
Sampaoli expressed his support for Mandanda during a recent press conference. “For me Steve performed well, he has no responsibility for the latest results”he said, highlighting the veteran's contribution to the team.
The Argentine coach also highlighted Mandanda's professionalism and experience. “He’s a very professional player for whom I have enormous respect,” he added, dismissing any concerns about the identity of the guard for the moment.
Sampaoli clarified that he prefers to concentrate his efforts on other positions requiring adjustments. “If there are positions to think about, they are positions other than that of goalkeeper,” he concluded, thus confirming the stability of Mandanda as first choice.
Sampaoli's decision could positively influence the atmosphere within the team, maintaining the current confidence and balance. Mandanda can thus calmly look forward to the rest of the season, with the support of his coach.
