His relationship to football
“He’s a little mixed (he cuts). When I see football matches or when I'm on the field, I know that I could have had a career. I know I could have been a good number 9. I have a sense of goal, I know where to place myself, I have this intelligence and this liveliness. Today, I am 52 years old, I am starting to… (he cuts in). But basically, I had all that. I have this sense of purpose, I have this feeling, I don't like losing. They didn't sign me up for football when I was supposed to. I wanted my parents to sign me up for football, they didn't. I will always have this taste of unfinished business. »
World Cups and Zidane
“What really makes me love it are the World Cups. For me, the most beautiful is that of 2006 when France reached the final, with Zizou's header. Plus, it's the first time I really supported the French team. Before that, I was never for the France team. I have always been for Brazil, even in 98. When we grew up, we were not for the France team. I was even for Germany. For me, it was the players who made me love it. I loved Karl Heinz Rummenigge. I have another beautiful memory: Euro 2000. When Wiltord delivered the pass to Trezeguet in the final. I watched that match in an airport, in Portugal, I think. I had missed my plane. I broke everything in the airport. Sometimes I go crazy watching the football, it's too exciting, it's so good. »
PSG and the Mbappé case
“His departure to Real Madrid is what had to be done. He should have done it two years ago. He did it too late. He should not have re-signed with PSG. We had to move. Real Madrid is Real Madrid. A club like that is an institution. Paris, the problem is that we lack this big trophy to attract the big players. For example, bringing in Messi was a mistake. You don't bring Messi here. You don't even have a Champions League, you bring in Messi. It's nonsense. Who are you going to bring next? You bring back Beckham, Zlatan, the other one, it’s nonsense. Messi had nothing to do there. Messi doesn't belong to that club, even if it's my club. Money shouldn't buy everything. The proof, he came for nothing. Prove yourself, win titles with good local players…”
