This Tuesday, the Refereeing Department returned to the penalty not whistled for Nice against OL. The DTA confirmed that Bastien Dechepy should have called a foul by Duje Caleta-Car.

Mistake ? No fault? Hand or not? Since Sunday evening, opinions have been divided when considering the contentious action that occurred in the 49th minute of the match OL – Nice (4-1). In the duel on a ball in the area, Evann Guessand collapsed, held by Duje Caleta-Car. The people of Nice logically thought that Bastien Dechepy was going to call a penalty, but it didn't happen at the time. The VAR would surely change this decision, but after viewing the video, the central referee chose to remain in his position. This inevitably triggered the anger of the Aiglons and Florian Maurice did not fail to release his frustration in the mixed zone.

For the past 48 hours, there has been a real media uproar in the south of , with Jean-Pierre River having asked for explanations Gautier and the direction of arbitration. The latter, as is the case every day, reversed the disputed decisions of the weekend and confirmed the error. There was indeed a lack of Caleta-Car on Guessand and it was therefore not a hand that prevented this penalty from being whistled, but rather a decision of Mr. Dechepy.

“The images show that the defender is holding the attacker back, with a clear girding of one arm, then both, and a lack of interest in the ball. The light sole on the attacker's left foot cannot in itself justify a penalty The intervention of the defender does not allow the attacker to continue his action after control of the ball and constitutes a fault within the meaning of Law 12. A penalty was therefore expected following the viewing at the edge of the field, as well. than a warning to the offender for behavior unsportsmanlike.”

This should not calm Nice’s anger…
