Botafogo is swimming in complete happiness. This Saturday evening, the Brazilian club won the Copa Libertadores final against Atlético Mineiro with a score of 3 goals to 1, much to the delight of its owner John Textor.
The American businessman who is struggling to achieve results with Olympique Lyonnais now finds himself at the top of South America with this success. After the triumph, the 59-year-old man did not mask his emotion and did not hesitate to send a small tackle to Europe and indirectly to the Rhone club.
“They worked so hard and they won the cup! I love them. They said we weren't mentally strong and our boys proved otherwise. They were wrong,” he said at the microphone of ESPN Brasil.
Before continuing: “I grew up in Florida which has strong relations with South America. For me, that's more important than anything that happens in Europe. It's phenomenal.” Words which should provoke a reaction in France in the coming days.
John Textor is currently busy celebrating Botafogo's Copa Libertadores title. But meanwhile, his other club Olympique Lyonnais is opposed to OGC Nice this Sunday as part of the 13th day of Ligue 1.
Seventh in the league standings, OL can overtake their opponent of the day if they succeed in front of their home crowd. Les Gones have 19 points against 20 for OGC Nice before their confrontation. To be continued…
