François Ciliento (Girondins Socios): “We are tired of having different owners who flout the Girondins de monument”

Sur 7, François
Cilientoone of the five founders of Girondins Socios, explained the genesis of the association's project, which was ultimately launched quickly.

“At the start, it wasn’t supposed to be done in a hurry at all. We were seen a bit as sweet dreamers: 'we need an investor, a François Pinault, who will come and put millions on the table'. In fact, we said to ourselves that there was also a possibility of being able to think about a system of socios, which is provided for by law in Germany for example.”

The launch of the membership was in any case a success, with many members around the world.

“You should know that the Girondins de are still a football monument. We are not surprised by this enthusiasm because the Girondins de Bordeaux are a monument, and that is why we free up a lot of our time for this. Afterwards, surprised that people joined so quickly, positively, yes. I think that the current owner is helping us a little in this craze, because we are tired of having different owners who flout the Girondins de Bordeaux monument. This is also why we came quickly on the scene, when the current owner filed for bankruptcy. We have nothing to do with what is happening today in the management of the Girondins de Bordeaux, and we would like things to change, for there to be management done with us, because I think that the things might have been different. If there had been a Socios movement from the start, I think things would not have ended the way they ended up now.”
