The future of PSG could be written far from Princes Park. The capital club is seriously considering building a new stadium within seven years and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is progressing very well on it.
PSG: Nasser Al-Khelaïfi drops the big news on the Parc des Princes
It is a series of several months, which could finally result in this much-announced departure of PSG from the Parc des Princes. After several unsuccessful negotiations, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi arrived at a clear conclusion: “leaving the Parc des Princes is a question of life and death”as he declared on the show Rothen Ignites of RMC Sport.
“The city leaves us no choice”specified the leader of PSG, who added: “We need to build the new stadium as quickly as possible to be at the level we want”. The departure of Paris Saint-Germain from the Parc des Princes, the stadium which represents its DNA, is therefore inevitable for the biggest club in the French capital.
PSG dreams of a bigger stadium
The takeover of the Parc des Princes, long considered, no longer seems to be a priority for Paris SG. The constraints linked to the limited capacity of the stadium and the difficulties of negotiation with the Paris town hall would have pushed the club to consider other options. “Nasser Al-Khelaïfi wants PSG to play in its own stadium, with greater capacity”explained Jérôme Rothen. “He is aware that the Parc des Princes is a place steeped in history, but he believes that the club needs a more modern stadium to compete with the biggest European clubs”he reveals.
If the idea is real, it is no longer simply at the stage of a dream but rather at the realization stage. According to Rothen, the project to build a new stadium is well advanced. “Building a stadium outside Paris, yes, there are grounds today, there are possibilities. They believe in it strongly because there are a lot of meetings”he clarified. The sports consultant believes that there is “eight or nine chances out of ten” for PSG to complete this project.
The construction of a new stadium would allow the capital club to have a more modern venue, with greater capacity and more efficient equipment. This would also allow the club to increase its revenues and strengthen its image internationally.
A change of era for PSG
If this project comes to fruition, it will mark a major turning point in the history of PSG. Leaving the Parc des Princes is like turning a page and opening a new one. This change could be difficult to accept for the supporters most attached to the club's history, but it could also mean a new start and new ambitions.
