Cédric Bakambu keeps a bitter taste from his time at Olympique de Marseille. The Congolese striker, who left the Marseille club in September 2022, spoke to Eurosport on the reasons for his premature departure and his regrets. Arriving at OM in January 2022 with great ambitions, the Congolese failed to establish himself as an indisputable starter.
Despite some good performances, notably during the Conference League semi-final, Cédric Bakambu and the Marseille leaders have agreed to end their collaboration in September 2022. “I am not vengeful even if I would have liked to continue the adventure because I would have gained momentum during the second season”said Bakambu.
“I experienced great emotions at OM: we played a C4 semi-final, we finished second in L1 and I scored a few goals (4 and 2 assists). I did not leave on bad terms with OM. I only have good memories”he notably indicated. The former Villarreal player believes that he could have brought more to the club, even if he remains satisfied with his time with Marseille.
“For me, my time in Marseille was not catastrophic. I thank the club for giving me this opportunity. he added. Bakambu, who reunited with Kylian Mbappé in La Liga with his signing for Real Betis, keeps an eye on the news from Olympique de Marseille and wishes the club the best.
