Pierre Sage speaks and reacts to the latest news concerning the club's precarious position before the DNCG.
Before moving Olympique Lyonnais on the ground of Reims stadium for the 12th day of Ligue 1, Pierre Sage spoke at a press conference. The Lyon coach addressed several subjects, including the form of his players, the ambitions of the club and the challenges to be taken up at Reims.
Progressive returns for a complete group
Concerning the state of its workforce, Pierre Sage gave reassuring news. “Corentin Tolisso was ill today, but he will train normally tomorrow. Three players return from selection this Thursday. We will prepare them as best we can to have everyone available on Saturday.” The coach hopes to be able to count on a complete group to face the Rémois and capitalize on the club's dynamics.
Objectives unchanged despite the turbulence
Asked about the club's tumultuous news, Sage kept his speech focused on sporting ambitions. “The only thing that matters to us is achieving our sporting goals. We remain on our course of action with the desire to be the ambitious club that we wish to be. If certain players have to leave soon, it will not change our plan and our ambitions.” A clear message to the supporters and his locker room, despite the rumors of departure and the financial challenges of OL.
An offensive approach, even outside
The coach aspires to stronger performances than that displayed during the derby against Saint-Étienne. “What matters to me is to play much more consistent matches. The more points we accumulate, the happier and sweeter the end of the season will be.”
On his weekend opponent, Pierre Sage recognized the quality of the Reims squad, despite the recent change of coach. “Reims has quality players. They changed coach, but did not change their game too much. We must be able to deliver a match that lives up to our ambitions.” A clear objective: leave Reims with three points while offering ambitious and constructed football.
Progress in the end of the match
Finally, Sage spoke of the difficulties encountered by his team in decisive moments. “At the end of matches, we must be able to have other attitudes. These concerns are linked to two aspects: courage and concentration”. Sage notably referred to frustrating scenarios against Marseille and Hoffenheim, while welcoming the progress made against Saint-Étienne.
