It's obviously one of the big hits of the summer in France and even in Europe. Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian technician with enormous popularity when he played on the Brighton bench, signed up with OM at the start of the summer. A file which seemed inaccessible but which the Olympian club finally managed to conclude to launch a project which it hopes will be successful in the next three years.
In the columns of Corriere della Sera, relayed by Eurosport, Pablo Longoria looks behind the scenes of this signing. “It was during the days when I was looking for a technician,” he recalled. A friend calls me and whispers: 'Next week, De Zerbi leaves Brighton. Don't say anything.' I hang up and call Edo Crnjar, his agent, and I tell him: 'I know it's impossible but I'll try.' I convinced him with transparency, with passion and with the project. Roberto followed his heart, I believe that the enthusiasm of the city and the OM supporters, who have 49,000 subscribers, played a role,” believes the Marseille president.
Longoria thought De Zerbi wanted an iPad but…
A Pablo Longoria who recounts a tasty anecdote, where a misunderstanding between the president and his coach gave rise to an XXL surprise at the training center. “One day, he asked me for the budget to buy an electronic board to explain the tactical diagrams. I replied that there was no problem, convinced that he would have taken an iPad. I found myself with a giant screen on the training ground, like those adapted to stadiums,” laughs the Marseille president even today.
