Two days before the Ligue 1 match between RC and OM, Florian Sotoca spoke about reuniting with his former teammate Elye Wahi. A player he really likes but against whom he won't do any favors on the pitch, going so far as to joke about the possibility of him “take two or three shots”.

An irregular start to the season for Wahi at OM

Transferred from Lens to OM last summer, Elye Wahi is having a sluggish start to the season with only 2 goals in 9 appearances. Sotoca followed his performances and judges that he was “fairly irregular during this first part of the season”which makes part of the learning process for this young player in the making according to him. With the strong competition at OM, Wahi is not yet an indisputable starter at the forefront of the attack.

A lovable player but under pressure

Despite Wahi's difficulties, Sotoca has nothing but good things to say about his former partner. He describes it as “a good kid, a good kid” with enormous potential. According to him, the pressure of the two big transfers to Lens then OM did not help Wahi to free himself completely. But Sotoca is convinced that his former teammate “has the qualities to succeed at the highest level” and he just needs time.

A friendly reunion but without a gift

Sotoca looks forward to seeing Wahi again on Saturday but warns that “on the pitch, if we have to give him 2-3 hits, we won’t deprive ourselves of it”. The reunion will be warm but without any gifts during the match, where Lens will play to win against OM. Sotoca describes Wahi as “someone adorable, pleasant” in the locker room. It remains to be seen what fate Bollaert will reserve for his former protégé…
