Bafétimbi Gomis: “I almost came to Stade Rennes”
In an interview with Ouest-France, Bafétimbi Gomis spoke about Brittany and Stade Rennes, by which he has already been approached.
He is now near the end of his career, and is having a special experience in Japan. Bafétimbi Gomis is also preparing to follow the return of the derby between Saint-Etienne and Lyon, and answered questions from Ouest-France, in particular on the SRFC where he could have joined at one time.
“I almost came because I had already spoken with Olivier Létang (president of Rennes between 2017 and 2020), but also Florian Maurice (2020-2024). Stade Rennais is a club that I really like. Unfortunately, things couldn't happen, but I watch the matches a lot, because their project is magnificent, the city is beautiful. Having come to Roazhon Park quite often recently, I find that the atmosphere has changed since the victory in the Coupe de France (2019). We sense a more aggressive club, which takes risks by buying players, reselling them, still training players like Désiré Doué. Many great players are trained in Brittany and have had great careers. It’s a stronghold of French football.”
