Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has highlighted the choice he regrets the most during his career.
Carlo Ancelotti, Real's manager, has been in his job for 32 years. A long journey during which he has not only made good choices. And there are a few he regrets. And it is not that of having recruited Kylian Mbappé, contrary to what one might think.
In an interview with France Football, after receiving his Johan Cruyff trophy which rewards the best coach of the year, the Italian technician spoke about the decision which leaves him with the most remorse.
Ancelotti would be ready to say stop
“It is impossible to always make the right decisions in thirty years. For example, I made a mistake here in Madrid, after my first season. I was very close to extending my contract, the club wanted to keep me, but I insisted too hard on increasing my salary, and they stopped. It was a mistake — the biggest I could have made. But it taught me a lot,” he blurted.
The Italian coach is currently in his second term at the Bernabeu, having left Real Madrid in 2015 and returned in 2021. During these two experiences, he led the team to 14 trophies, including two La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.
During the same interview, “Carletto” also spoke about his upcoming retirement: “ I can imagine retirement, yes. I started in football forty-eight years ago. So, I start to think about the day when this might stop. What could make me say stop? I would say I would stop if Madrid fired me. I don't know what would make me stop. My family? My wife wants me to continue. What I know for sure is that the day I retire will be a fantastic day. I have a lot of things to do and see.”
