Stade Rennais has just turned an important page in its history by parting ways with its coach Julien Stéphan. Returning to the club in November 2023 to succeed Bruno Genesio, Stéphan unfortunately failed to make his mark. A change of coach therefore which risks doing good to a certain Amine Gouiri.
The club is currently in 13th place in Ligue 1,
with five defeats in ten days, a situation which culminated with the heavy defeat against Auxerre (4-0), marking a breaking point for the Rennes management. This departure allows Stade Rennais to hope for new momentum, embodied by the potential arrival of Jorge Sampaoli.
The Argentine coach, free since his time at Flamengo and former coach of Olympique de Marseille, is expected to take the reins of the team. Known for his intense style of play and his unique temperament, Sampaoli could well breathe new energy into the group. The Rennes project also seems to be taking shape with the arrival of Frédéric Massara as sporting director and Arnaud Pouille as president, demonstrating a desire to build a competitive team capable of competing among the best in Ligue 1.
This change of direction could also relaunch Amine Gouiri's season within the club. The Algerian striker, disappointed with his reduced role under Stéphan, has seen his playing time drop this season. The Algerian player, who stood out with a goal on the first day against Lyon, lost his starting place, accumulating only 571 minutes on the field since the start of the 2024/2025 opus. 'explained by the strong competition for the attacking position and by the choices of Stéphan, who considered that Gouiri's performances did not justify more playing time.
The probable arrival of Sampaoli could redistribute the cards. Known for his ability to galvanize attacking players, the Argentine coach's philosophy could suit Gouiri, who initially joined Rennes with the promise of playing a major role in attack. A new dynamic is emerging, offering the Algerian international a chance to establish himself and regain an important place within the team.
