On Forever and in the show “Coups Francs”, the journalist Julien Bée continued the development of the typical team in the history of the Girondins de Bordeaux, this time evoking the right-back position.
“There are several who have left their mark on the club. The most recent are perhaps Mariano, then further back we can think of Matthieu Chalmé, François Grenet, David Jemmali, Julien Faubert, Laurent Corcis, Gilbert Moevi for the oldest. Youssouf Sabaly, to say that he is one of the best right-backs in the history of the Girondins, perhaps not. We also have Jean-Christophe Thouvenel who won a lot of titles with the Girondins. And then, for the oldest, Camus, but we really go very far, and it’s more complicated to choose a player that we haven’t seen evolve.”
But for him, it will be Jean-Christophe Thouvenel.
“Jean Christophe Thouvenel, that’s still 489 matches with the Girondins de Bordeaux, six goals. That's three French Champion titles in 84, 85, and 87. Two French Cups in 86 and 87, and three honorary titles of French vice-Champion in 83, 88 and 90, that shows his longevity. He played from 1979 to 1991 with the Navy and White jersey. He’s a huge legend.”
To complete this podium, Matthieu Chalmé et
François Grenet.
“François Grenet also has a rather nice track record with the Girondins de Bordeaux, being Champion of France in 99, the Intertoto Cup in 95, finalist of the UEFA Cup in 96, and finalist of the League Cup in 98. For Matthieu Chalmé, who I also put on the podium, is Champion of France in 2009, Coupe de la Ligue in 2009, finalist in 2010, and Trophée des Champions in 2008 and 2009.”
