Currently without a contract since his dismissal from Naples in November 2023, the 60-year-old French coach is patient before finding a new challenge. But while Julien Stéphan is in great difficulty in Rennes – 0-4 defeat against AJ Auxerre this weekend, 13th in the ranking -, the former coach of OM (2016-2019) and Lyon (2019 -2021) was cited as one of the favorites to take over.
On RMCDaniel Riolo gave details on the possibility of seeing the coach return to a bench in France: “Why have we talked so much about Rudi Garcia? Because (Frederic) Massara (Rennes sports director, editor's note) and he are very close and they worked together at AS Roma? (…) Unless extraordinary, except in a crazy situation because there is no one who wants to come, it will not be Rudi Garcia. It’s information, yes”.
In the more or less recent past, the former Marseille coach, Igor Tudor, also free of any contract, had been cited to take over from Julien Stéphan, like Stefano Pioli, now in post at Al-Nassr since the 18 September 2024.
