Search in progress at the LFP on the conditions of the agreement with CVC

According to information from The Team confirmed by RMC Sport, a search is underway this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Professional League (LFP) as part of the investigation opened into the conditions of the agreement entered into with CVC, in particular.

According to information from L'Equipe confirmed by RMC Sport, a search is underway this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Professional Football League (LFP). It is being carried out as part of the investigation opened by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) after a complaint from the anti-corruption association “AC!” on the conditions of the agreement entered into with CVC. In April 2022, the LFP formalized the creation of its commercial company and the signing with the investment fund CVC Capital Partners which will bring in 1.5 billion euros, in exchange for 13% of the League's capital.

A search at Vincent Labrune's house

According to L'Equipe, a search is also underway at the home of Vincent Labrune, president of the body, in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Investigators are seeking to determine the distribution of an envelope of 37.5 million euros determined during the agreement with CVC, part of which had been paid in the form of bonuses to Labrune and to leaders of the League and the others shares to bankers and lawyers… chosen by Labrune, details the newspaper.

These searches take place a little less than a week after the submission of the senatorial report on the management of the LFP, and in particular the conditions of this agreement with CVC. He had also targeted the salary of Vincent Labrune, tripled at the time of the deal (to reach 1.2 million euros annually). Among their 35 recommendations, Laurent Lafon, president of the senatorial commission, and rapporteur Michel Savin called for the establishment of “a ceiling on the remuneration of presidents of professional leagues, similar to that existing for public companies (450,000 euros ) and limit the amount of their severance pay to six months' salary excluding bonuses.

They also asked to “specify in the law that the function of president of the commercial subsidiary of a professional league is not remunerated when it is exercised by a representative of the League. Otherwise, cap this remuneration as recommended in the previous recommendation.” This last point gave rise to a rather surreal scene when two members of CVC seemed to have learned before the senatorial commission the strange arrangement of Labrune's salary.
