TV: Beinsports threatens to no longer pay 100ME for Ligue 1

Beinsports wants to co-broadcast its Ligue 1 match, but DAZN refuses and has planned everything contractually. The Professional League is in an untenable situation.

Before signing its contract with the LFP, and agreeing to pay 400 million euros per season, DAZN had planned everything, and in particular its desire that the match which was not in its offer not be broadcast by another channel than Beinsports. And obviously, the new broadcaster of Ligue 1 had a good intuition, since for its part the Qatari sports channel conditions the payment of its 100 million euros per year on the possibility of co-broadcasting its only match per day of the League 1, and why not on Canal+. The weeks pass, and while we have just passed the ninth day of the Championship, Beinsports has still not paid the second installment provided for in a contract which has still not been signed. According to The Teamon the side of Vincent Labrune and the LFP, we are starting to laugh in the face of this inextricable situation.

The LFP is in a real mess with L1 rights

Because DAZN wants the initial agreement to be respected and Beinsports clings to its request to be able to share its Ligue 1 match with another broadcaster. And to make its determination known, the Franco-Qatari sports channel sent a letter to the Professional Football League warning that payment of the 100 million euros will not be guaranteed until this problem is resolved. “ Without this co-broadcast, beIN announces the color in a vitriolic letter sent, on October 22, to LFP Media, the commercial subsidiary of the League: it no longer intends to pay the 98.5 million initially planned », Confirms the sports daily. Another major concern is that OL and other clubs do not want to make room for Qatar as part of a promotional campaign which is also associated with this contract with Beinsports. Three months after the start of the 2024-2025 season, the rights issue is therefore far from being resolved, without us knowing whether DAZN has really reached the 500,000 subscriber mark.
