A journalist from the Swedish daily Expressen reveals some behind the scenes of the evening in which Kylian Mbappé participated in Stockholm last Thursday. The newspaper revealed that the world champion was under investigation for rape and sexual assault. What those around him firmly deny.

The newspaper Expressen set the football world alight on Monday by ensuring that Swedish justice had opened a preliminary investigation for rape and sexual assault against Kylian Mbappé, for alleged acts dating back to Thursday October 10. The player denounced “fake news” in reaction to a first article from Aftonbladet revealing the opening of an investigation in the establishment where the player had stayed without linking him to the case. His entourage then firmly denied Expressen’s revelations.

“Customers who were many women”

This Tuesday, two other Swedish media (Aftonbladet and 4) also ensure that the 2018 world champion is the person targeted by the complaint. The courts confirmed the opening of an investigation without mentioning the name of the player, for an alleged incident which took place on October 10. Not selected by the French team to remain in care with Real Madrid, Mbappé was seen in the streets of the Swedish capital on the evening of the Israel- match (1-4), in the League of Nations, in the company of certain close ones including Nordi Mukiele, his former partner at PSG now in Leverkusen. The group dined in the Chez Jolie restaurant before heading to the V nightclub.

Interviewed by BFMTV, Katrin Krantz, journalist with the Expressen police-justice service, reveals some behind the scenes of the evening during which the alleged events took place. “Guests were forced to put their cell phones in an envelope to enter a ping-pong room which was a party room in Club V,” she explains. “They were customers who were many women chosen by the restaurateur. They were normal young women, not linked to football, who like to party.”

The journalist also explains the degree of “reasonably guilty” suspicion which would target Mbappé. “There are two levels, it is the ‘Skäligen misstänkt’ (reasonably guilty) and the På sanolika skäl misstänkt (suspect for probable cause),” he underlines. “Here, he is still ‘reasonably guilty’ but that could change. We do not yet know the identity of this or these women who were in the ping-pong room, the party room.”
