Claudio Caçapa, interim coach of Botafogo
After being an assistant at OL then coach at Botafogo and Molenbeek, Claudio Caçapa is today without a club. The former defender is hungry for a new project in France or Europe.
He was the providential scorer in the Coupe de la Ligue final in 2001, the captain of OL’s good years. Next, Claudio Pocket managed to keep this link with the Lyon club, notably by becoming an assistant coach under different coaches. These came one after the other, but the former defender always knew how to keep his position. Finally, everything accelerated in the summer of 2023 with the arrival of John Textor. In his desire for synergy between Eagle Football clubs, the American saw Pocket as the ideal profile to fill the interim role Botafogo. A short experience certainly, but successful, which opened the doors to the RWD Molenbeek as full-time head coach. Unfortunately, the adventure ended rather short with a dismissal last February, due to lack of results. Having been forced to rest since then, Claudio Caçapa is taking his troubles patiently in Lyon. “I’m itching to get back on the field, I miss it”he confided to The Last Hour.
“Not yet ready to return to Brazil”
After living in the shadows as an assistant, the Brazilian found the light in Botafogo et Molenbeek as head coach. There’s no way he’s going back. The career plan is now well defined: it will be a number 1 role that Pocket will search in a very specific area. “I want to take over a club. I have had contacts, especially in Brazil, but I am not yet ready to return to the country. I am waiting for something here, in France or in Europe. But as a “Head coach, not assistant: I was on staff for seven and a half years in Lyon with five different coaches and I know I can do it.”
So no return to OL for the immediate future.
