Futsal | The improbable scenario between Morocco and Iran

If you have heard of the Futsal World Cup, it is certainly thanks to the masterpiece of the French team. Indeed, the Blues did not fail to make the legends of this sport react by being satisfied with a defeat against Iran which suited them well, let’s say it. And that’s good, because we’re going to talk to you about this Iranian team. Opposed to Morocco in the round of 16, Iran is the big favorite. But the outcome of this match should only be enjoyed with a trailer of popcorn, at least.

Iran misses last-second penalty at Futsal World Cup

While the two teams are tied (1-1), to everyone’s surprise, it is Morocco which takes the reins on the scoreboard. The Moroccans lead 2-1, then 3-1 and even 4-1 just before the break. A goal that speaks for itself.

But Iran has not said its last word. The Iranians climb back little by little, until they come back to 4-3. There are only a handful of seconds left to play, when they get… a penalty. The comeback is underway, and overtime is at the end of Sajad Yousef Khah’s foot. The Iranian southpaw takes a long, long run-up. Add to that an interminable time before taking the penalty, and you have all the essential ingredients for a proper wallow.

And that doesn’t lie. Yousef Khah rushes forward at full speed, opens his foot and sends the ball onto the post. The air conditioning is huge. Morocco is invited to play in the quarter-finals, Iran to return home. And the worst part of this story is that this scenario ultimately validates the strategy of the French team. For once she bows, it is ultimately to surround us better. What a life…
