Andy Carroll’s crazy revelation about his salary in Bordeaux

Andy Carroll, former Liverpool star and the most expensive player in the history of English football, recently surprised the football world by joining the Girondins de Bordeaux, currently in National 2 (4th division). After discovering French football in Amiens in Ligue 2, the 35-year-old British striker chose to extend his adventure in France. Interviewed by RMC Sport, Carroll explains why he made this unexpected decision: “Playing in Bordeaux costs me money,” he confides. “But I love football, and it was an opportunity to play for a big French club.” Far from the lights of the Premier League, where he played 248 matches, the striker wants to contribute to the rebirth of the Bordeaux club: “It’s a great project. The club has gone through difficult times, but it deserves to return to the top and I want to be part of this history,” he assures.

Money is not a driving force in the face of passion

Despite a modest salary of 3,500 euros per month, Andy Carroll does not seem to worry about the financial aspect, saying that money has never been at the heart of his motivations: “To be honest, it costs me money. money to be here, but that’s not the important thing. I play football and I’m happy to play football.” Last Saturday, Carroll already showed his desire to fully invest, scoring a double for his first match with the Girondins, against the Voltigeurs de Châteaubriant (2-2). “It doesn’t matter what level you play at in the end. I just like playing football and that’s what I came here to do,” he adds. For the former Premier League player, his objective is clear: “Fight as best as possible to get this club back on track”.
