Cynicism pushed to its peak. The newspaper L’Equipe reveals this Thursday, September 26, 2024 that ex-agent Mark McKay, who had been mandated by FC Nantes to transfer Emiliano Sala across the Channel, claimed his commission on the transfer of the Argentine striker, tragically disappeared on January 19, 2019 in a plane crash, two days after signing for Cardiff City.

This commission amounts to 10% of the transfer concluded at €17M, or €1.7M.
Mark McKay even took the liberty of charging the Nantes club a “penalty” of €85,000 due to the delay in payment, the Welsh club having refused to pay the transfer amount. If the FCN had no choice but to pay the commission, it did not pay the penalties.

Mark’s father, Willie McKay, however, assured in an interview with the BBC in February 2019 that his clan did not intend to claim this commission: It’s not about money, it’s about two lives lost
