Star recruit from Amiens in Ligue 2 last season, Andy Carroll will have spent just over a season in Picardy, scoring four league goals. During the month of September, the former England international made the surprising choice to join Bordeaux, administratively relegated during the summer in National 2. The start was ideal for him with a double in his first match to snatch a draw at Matmut Atlantique (2-2). In an interview with RMC Sport, the former Liverpool striker talks about this new project… where he had to make big financial efforts.

“You know, I just love football and it was an opportunity to play for a big French club. The level you play at doesn’t matter in the end. I love playing football and that’s what I came here to do. I really hope we can achieve our goals this season. How does a player who has earned so much money in the Premier League accept a challenge like the Girondins (his salary is estimated at around 3,500 euros per month)? That’s what I told you before, it’s simply because I love football. To be honest, it even costs me money to have gone to play for the Girondins. But I play football and I’m just happy to play football. I want to be part of the history of this club and to be honest it’s not a question of money. In my career, it’s never been a question of money.”
