TV rights scandal: The huge exit of an ex-PSG player

The hot topic of Ligue 1 TV rights has caused a lot of ink to flow, causing a stir even in the ranks of the elite clubs of French football. Last Friday, Antoine Kombouaré, the coach of FC , did not mince his words. During a forceful speech, he expressed his annoyance with the situation, particularly criticizing the lack of broadcasts of matches on the historic channel Canal+. A rant that reflects the growing unease surrounding the broadcasting of championship matches.

Since the start of this new season of Ligue 1It is DAZN who took over the broadcasting rights, but the price of its subscriptions has not failed to arouse criticism. This Friday, during a press conference, Antoine Kombouaré, the coach of FC Nantesdid not mince his words. Visibly annoyed, the former PSG loudly expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of Canal+ in the race to broadcast matches, pushing a real rant. An intervention which resonates like an echo of the frustrations of many football fans.

“A big load of crap”

“I am from the Canal + generation. For me, today, I say it and I will always repeat it, we have lost a great partner. Canal is not a broadcaster for me, it is family. I could never imagine Canal + without Ligue 1 or Ligue 1 without Canal +. For me, it is heresy, it is even a big stupidity, in my words”lamented Antoine Kombouarebefore adding another layer.

“A great loss for French football”

“I know what I’m talking about. Both in terms of TV rights, but especially in terms of quality of service. They have always put Ligue 1 forward, have done everything to make Ligue 1 a recognized championship. Today, not having Canal + is a great loss for French football. You can put any broadcaster today, they can’t compete with Canal +. Forty years of presence, that can’t be replaced like that, it’s not possible. The expertise, the skills, the consultants… For me, it’s a great loss, on a professional level, but also emotionally […] I’m going to get a DAZN subscription. I have no choice, in the sense that I have to set an example and above all it’s my job ” added the coach of FC Nantes.
