The Arkema Première Ligue season begins this weekend. New ASSE defender, Easther Mayi Kith gives her first impressions of her new club. The Cameroonian international spoke during the 100% Sainté show on France Bleu Saint-Etienne Loire.
About his integration into ASSE
“I already knew the coach, so my integration was easier. I also knew a lot of players, and the fact that the new shareholders give great importance to women’s Football pleased me a lot. My first professional contract was in France, where I had the opportunity to work with this coach.
The preparation went very well. We adhered well to the coach’s project, both tactically and physically. We worked a lot, and this allowed us to create good cohesion between us, the girls. Overall, it was a successful preparation.
The results are positive overall. Even though we finished with a defeat, it allowed us to make the final adjustments before the weekend. Tactically, we still need to refine certain aspects to better counter the other teams, especially on new formations. But offensively and defensively, we were able to assess where we are.
My main goal is to assert myself defensively. I need to be more vocal on the back line and bring my experience to the players. On top of that, I want to be physical and help solidify our defense.
Women’s football is growing tremendously around the world, and I’ve really enjoyed my experiences abroad. Football continues to grow, and it’s a great time to be involved in the sport.
Easther Mayi Kith wants to build on last season’s work
This year, our goal is to make a place among the big teams in the championship. We want to build on the good season the girls had last year, while continuing to develop our game. They have exceeded expectations, and we hope to do the same this season.
There is obviously Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Paris FC which is gaining momentum. These are benchmark teams with which we will try to compete for the next season.
I followed ASSE’s Ligue 1 matches, especially those against OL. I was able to observe what happened last time, especially since I know the team well.
I already knew the two Canadians, Alexandria and Amandine. As I said, I was in Montpellier before, so I also knew Solène, Fiona and Lisa. That makes things a lot easier. When I was abroad, I was often alone without any landmarks, so coming back here with familiar faces is really soothing.
Reims had a good season last year, so we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We already have an idea of what they are capable of, and we will build on that for the next game.
