Serie A Women | Sassuolo-Juventus Women | The match

Debut with victory for la Juventus Women by coach Canzi who, on the first day of the 2024/2025 Women’s Serie A championship, beats Sassuolo away with a score of 6-3The match at the Enzo Ricci stadium was decided by goals from Beccari, Girelli, Bergamaschi, Cantore, Vangsgaard and Lehmann for the black and whites, while Clelland, Fischer and Gallazzi scored the two goals for the black and greens.

THE MATCH

The first chance of the match fell to the home team who came close to taking the lead after six minutes with Missipo, who from a very good position sent the ball high over the crossbar. Two minutes later, however, the black and whites took the lead with a splendid solo action by Beccari who, from the left, skips past two opponents and crosses the right foot to the near post beating Durand. Ricci has had a lively start to the match because, just after the quarter of an hour of play, Sassuolo equalises with a shot from outside the area by Clelland that Capelletti can do nothing about. Clelland comes close to scoring a brace a minute later, grazing the post with his left foot, but it is Juventus Women who take the lead again at minute 20 with the penaltyhandball by Orsi, perfect by Girelli. At the 35th then the black and whites find the third goal with a corner perfectly taken by Caruso at the far post for the onrushing Bergamaschi who headed in the 3-1 that closed the first half.

The recovery starts in the best possible way for coach Canzi’s team who in the 49th minute signs the 4-1 with a great play by Cantore who outpaces Pleidrup and then diagonally scores the black and white poker. Poker that at 52′ is one step away from becoming a poker but Caruso fails to convert Beccari’s excellent suggestion into a goal. Two minutes later Sassuolo closes the gap with Fischer who hits the net after Capelletti’s save on Chmielinski. At minute 73 Caruso comes close to scoring again with a great shot to the far post, deflecting it into the corner by Durand; 120 seconds later Sassuolo surprises the black and whites on a corner with Gallazzi who scores the goal for 3-4. At 82′ Juventus Women immediately re-establishes the double advantage with the new arrival Vangsgaard who scores the fifth Juventus goal with her left foot taking advantage of Thomas’ cross. The joy of the goal also comes for another substitute from the bench: Lehmann is skilled to take advantage of a mistake by the black-green rearguard and with a shot below to sign the 6-3 that definitively closes the match and with which the black-and-whites officially kick off their season.

COACH CANZI’S COMMENT

“We have been preparing for these five weeks, we know that we cannot be at our best at the moment but it is certainly a positive result. We take advantage of the offensive potential, the ability to hurt and the fact that all the forwards have scored, which makes us very happy. We have improved in that aspect, now we have to do it in the defensive phase because you cannot be satisfied when you concede three goals because in 95% of cases when you concede three goals you lose. In some situations we were not careful. We will try to play the championship until the end, for us it was important to start well because we were playing against a team that last year participated in the Poule Scudetto, that has changed a lot, that we respect a lot and that has shown that it can cause us problems”.

BECCARI’S COMMENT

“I’m happy to have scored the first goal with this shirt, we wanted to start well and we managed to bring home the three points. I’m happy to have been able to unlock the game, I’ve been dreaming of scoring in Serie A with this shirt for a long time and I’m happy. We’ve worked hard in this preseason playing good games, today it was important to start well and bring home the victory. Coach Canzi believes a lot in us, he’s brought innovation and a new way of playing that we’re getting used to but that’s already bearing fruit. We’re getting along very well. Playing with Girelli is a dream come true for me, I looked at her as a point of reference and now I’m at her side…”
