Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-0 Real Betis; 2024 La Liga

Full match player ratings below:

Thibaut Courtois—7: Only had two saves to make on the night. Solid with his distribution and cut off shooting angles with his positioning.

Dani Carvajal—8: Back to his best tonight. Provided width as a right winger in the attack and battled hard defensively against Abde and Perraud.

Eder Militao—8: Nearly scored from a corner kick with a towering header. His speed is a cheat code defensively, preventing Ruibal twice in counter-attacking moments as the last man back.

Antonio Rüdiger—7: Routine shift, barely tested by the Betis attack.

Ferland Mendy—6: Ancelotti wanted more from his fullback in the final third and substituted him out in the second half despite a solid showing.

Aurelien Tchouaméni—8: Defensive titan—duel-winning machine. This was the Tchouaméni from last season. The Frenchman needs to find this form again following the international break. Won 7/8 ground duels and 3/3 aerial duels.

Fede Valverde—8.5: Madrid’s standout performer to start the season. Puts in so much work over the course of 90 minutes. Produced an early candidate for assist of the season with an intelligent back-heel flicked through ball to Mbappé to break the deadlock. A crucial cog in this Madrid team.

Dani Ceballos—6: A huge opportunity for Ceballos to stake a claim for more minutes. Did not play badly, but Madrid’s best moments came after Brahim and Fran García entered for Ceballos and Mendy.

Rodrygo—7.5: Has started the season in good form but needs more goals to show for his efforts. Produced 5 key passes and completed 3 dribbles.

Vinicius Junior—7: Drew the penalty for the second goal and unselfishly gave the spot kick to Mbappé. Constantly ran at Sabaly and Llorente.

Kylian Mbappé—8: As a #9, Mbappé’s main job is to put the ball in the back of the net. Despite some frustrating shots throughout the game, the Frenchman eventually latched onto Valverde’s through ball and gave Madrid the lead. Secured a brace with a well-taken penalty.

Substitutions:

Brahim Díaz—8: Fantastic performance off the bench. Was nearly perfect with both his passing and dribbling. Nearly produced another assist for Endrick late in the game.

Fran Garcia—7: Positive 25 minutes off the bench. Madrid’s best moments came after the double substitution of Fran and Brahim. The Spaniard’s underlapping and overlapping runs forced the Betis defense to make tougher decisions.

Luka Modric—N/A: Late substitution in the 84th minute for Mbappé.

Endrick—N/A: Nearly scored, and given his insane quality at 18, one would have expected him to score—after a bull-like run between the center-backs fed by Brahim into a one-on-one with the keeper. His toe-poke shot was saved.
