Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah after defeat: “We just slept”

Anyone who bet on RB Leipzig winning against Leverkusen after 45 minutes is probably rich now. There was absolutely no indication that the Werkself would let the win slip away after their 2-0 lead.

“We had several opportunities to seal the deal, but we didn’t use them. The goals we conceded were far too easy,” said Tah, analyzing the events. “Of course there were mistakes in defense. But we have to defend as a team, and today we were sometimes just asleep. Then you get punished.”

His coach Xabi Alonso sees it similarly. “It’s hard. It’s very bitter. We didn’t deserve to lose today,” said the Spaniard after the game. In the first half, everything was fine for Leverkusen. “We played particularly well in the first half. But in the second 45 minutes we didn’t have enough control of the game.”

When asked about the easy goals conceded, Alonso said: “We defended too ‘softly’. I’m not saying that everything was bad, I saw a lot of good things today too. But above all we have to improve our game against the ball. Of course this defeat is particularly bitter, but that’s football.”
