The “thorn in the side” of Alejo Véliz and the message to Sevilla

The Espanyol striker Alejo Véliz was the star of Saturday’s match between RCD Espanyol and Rayo Vallecano, match corresponding to matchday 4 of LaLiga EA Sports. The Argentine scored the winning goal for the blue and white team in the 97th minute of the match, stating after the ‘perico’ victory that “he had a thorn in his side” because “he was looking for the goal and he couldn’t get it.”

The footballer born in Gödeken, in the Argentine province of Santa Fe, was on loan last season at Sevilla FC, a club he joined in the winter transfer market from Tottenham, who bought him the previous summer from Rosario Central for 15 million euros.

During his time at Sevilla, Véliz played six games, although he only played 31 minutes.coming off the bench in all those matches, five of them in injury time. They were difficult months, as the striker himself confessed this Saturday in the mixed zone of the RCDE Stadium. “I didn’t have a very good time emotionally and that discomfort fell on my familymy girlfriend and mine, those who were always there. I give them the victory and the goal because they deserve it,” said Veliz.

The young striker also thanked the coach for his treatment and revealed that one of the reasons he is at Espanyol is Manolo González and his coaching staff. “They told me from day one that I was going to be important for them and they would give me the confidence I needed,” he said.

Alejo Véliz added that he is “very happy” with his adaptation to the team and the city of Barcelona. “Everything is falling into place the way I wanted it to. I thank my girlfriend for being there and for picking me up every time I fell after each match.”

Manolo González was asked about Véliz at the press conference after the match. The blue and white coach was full of praise for the signing. “He has a great future in European football. He is very young (20 years old) and he has to go through a toll that we all have to go through. He will continue to grow and every day we will see a better player,” he predicted.

This season, Véliz has been a starter from the start. The Argentine played 70 minutes in the first match against Valladolid, played the entire match against Real Sociedad, played 64 minutes in the draw against Atlético de Madrid, and completed almost 100 minutes in the match against Rayo Vallecano, in which he was yellow carded in the 97th minute.
