During the third day of Group 1, the British continued their series of defeats in the competition (three in a row, now) by conceding a new setback in Croatia. However, it was Ryan Christie who opened the scoring after half an hour of play, taking advantage of an improbable poor dismissal from the opposing defense. But the locals reacted quickly, Igor Matanovic equalizing with a perfect delivery from the eternal Ivan Perisic a few minutes later.

For once, the savior is not called Modric

In the second half, Luka Modric’s band made the difference through Andrej Kramaric: opportunist, the Hoffenheim player placed a decisive header after a good save from Craig Gordon to offer a deserved victory to his country (possession of the ball favorable, around fifteen shots attempted, very few shots on target conceded…) despite a goal denied to the visitors in added time. This success gives six points to the second in the group, tied for Portugal (which has an additional match to play).

Peter Cormack would probably have preferred a better tribute, but too bad.
