Jürgen Klopp does not have a national coach clause at Red Bull. Red Bull’s managing director Oliver Mintzlaff clearly rejected the idea that the 57-year-old could succeed Julian Nagelsmann after the 2026 World Cup. “Jürgen Klopp has no exit clause and we are looking forward to a long-term collaboration,” said the 49-year-old to the German Press Agency.

There are no further details from the contract for the cult coach, who most recently immortalized himself at the traditional English club Liverpool FC, among other things, by winning the 2019 Champions League. Klopp will start working as Red Bull’s global head of football on January 1, 2025, and the media is reporting a five-year contract.

Mintzlaff reiterated that he could “clearly deny” the question about the exit clause for the national coach case. Nagelsmann’s contract currently expires after the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“Regardless of whether there is a clause or not, we are not dealing with it,” said DFB Sport managing director Andreas Rettig to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and explained with regard to Nagelsmann: “Because we have the best coach we can “And everyone who bears responsibility at the German Football Association would not concern themselves with exit scenarios for a second.

Mintzlaff cleared up another speculation

Nagelsmann himself had ironically commented on the speculation about an alleged exit clause in Klopp’s contract. “I know Olli Mintzlaff very well. I can’t imagine that the clause is there, but I’ll ask again,” he said before Mintzlaff’s clarification. The national team is playing in the Nation League in Bosnia-Herzegovina today (8:45 p.m./RTL).

As a former coach of RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann is very familiar with the Red Bull cosmos. “Germany has a fantastic national coach in Julian Nagelsmann, who I really appreciate and with whom I also have a very good relationship,” emphasized Mintzlaff. As Nagelsmann reported, Mintzlaff called him before the Klopp coup was announced and informed him personally about it.

Mintzlaff, who was promoted to managing director of the beverage and media company after the death of Red Bull’s founder Dietrich Mateschitz in October 2022, cleared up another speculation. The fact that Mateschitz is said to have convinced Klopp to come to Red Bull a good two years ago has “no basis whatsoever and is a fairy tale,” Mintzlaff made clear. “As far as I know, Jürgen Klopp has extended his contract with Liverpool FC in 2022.” In fact, Klopp had signed a new contract with the Reds at the end of April 2022.

Mintzlaff and Red Bull expect Klopp to “reach an even higher level and reduce the gap to the absolute top teams.” He praised him as an inspiring person who inspires and inspires many people. “And that is exactly what will have a very positive effect on our football commitments,” said the Red Bull managing director.
