‘We had to go for the second ball’: Rodrigo de Paul on the quality of the pitch in Argentina’s draw

In a heavily interrupted and controversial match, the Argentine National Team drew 1-1 against Venezuela in Caracas. The most significant aspect of the match was the soggy pitch at the Estadio Monumental stadium in Maturín, which significantly hampered the progress of the game.

After the match, several players spoke to the media, including Rodrigo de Paul, who said: “Unfortunately, we had to adapt to these circumstances, and we could not take the three points. Today it was really unplayable; we had to go get the second ball. It was a hard-fought match. »

He added: “We must continue to work to achieve our goal of playing at the next World Cup. We follow instructions and do what we are told. For us, the best playing conditions are on a good pitch where the ball can slide. »

Following this draw, Argentina’s next meeting will take place on Tuesday 15, when Scaloni’s team faces Bolivia at 9:00 p.m. at the Más Monumental stadium.

After their meeting with Bolivia, Argentina will play for the last time this year in the FIFA date in November. She will face Paraguay in Asunción, then play Peru at home. Additionally, Dibu Martínez is expected to return to the team after serving his two-match suspension.

Looking at the rankings, the Argentine National Team remains at the top of the qualifiers with 19 points, having secured six wins, one draw and two defeats. Colombia follows in second place with 16 points. Néstor Lorenzo’s side suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat to Bolivia in La Paz today, while Uruguay complete the podium with 15 points and a game in hand.

It should be noted that the first six teams will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup which will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada, while the team finishing in seventh place will enter a playoff. Currently, that team is Paraguay, although there are still nine matches to go.
