Priske about attacking play: “That is what is currently missing”

A packed Champions League evening is on the program, but for Het Legioen the Feyenoord match is the only thing that matters. The Rotterdam team will face Girona FC, the current number twelve in the Spanish league. Brian Priske has chosen to give Hugo Bueno a starting place and the same names start as against NEC last weekend. Before the match, the Dane appears in front of the Ziggo Sport camera.

“I don’t think this is ‘a last chance’,” the trainer responds to Marco van Basten’s opinion. The former striker thinks that Feyenoord has to win to even have a chance in the tournament. “We have eight games in the Champions League and this is only the second. It is important to get a good result and this is certainly one of the games where we want that. We have good players available and a strong line-up at the kick-off Girona also has problems in its own competition.”

The only position where Priske has made a change is at left back in defence. “Bueno came in with speed, good passing, strong left leg and he is also very dynamic in his game.” Furthermore, Thomas Beelen is ‘simply’ preferred to Gernot Trauner and the trainer explains that choice. “Beelen brings speed to the match and he has a good collaboration with Dávid. I believe in their collaboration. The same applies to Gernot and that is why it is not easy to make decisions.”

“The fact that Beelen makes a small mistake in the previous match does not mean that everything is immediately bad. He has played good games for us and is certainly one of the players I believe in for the future.” Finally, Priske is asked why his players often fail to make a difference in the final phase of the game. “That partly depends on the individual quality, but also on the relationship between players. It is important that you understand each other flawlessly and know where players are walking, that is what is currently missing. The last pass is missing.”
