«Shitty result»: Klose’s Nuremberg team gets a beating

Nuremberg (dpa/lby) – The mood at 1. FC Nuremberg is at rock bottom. Coach Miroslav Klose and the traditional Franconian club suffered a home defeat against 1. FC Magdeburg. For the 2014 world champions, it was the first home defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga. “We weren’t intense enough in the transition phases,” criticized Klose, adding: “We were far too dangerous in front of goal.”

In a one-sided duel with two momentous decisions by the video referee, the Franconians deservedly lost 0:4 (0:1) to a tough opponent after a disappointing performance. “That’s a shitty result,” complained captain Robin Knoche. “Especially after a 0:2, you can’t behave like that in terms of tackling. We have a young team, but that still doesn’t work. We’ll work on that internally.”

A deficit out of nowhere

Klose’s unimaginative team slipped to 13th place in the table with another four points, while the guests coached by Christian Titz temporarily climbed to third place in the relegation zone with eight points.

The deficit came out of nowhere. The dangerous Martijn Kaars robustly prevailed in a duel against Florian Flick, and Xavier Amaechi (24th) converted the cross pass with a follow-up shot against Nuremberg goalkeeper Jan Reichert, who reacted strongly once. The goal also withstood a review by the video referee.

Nuremberg’s Justvan is already waiting for the penalty

In the 38th minute, Cologne’s Keller was called into action again. Nuremberg’s Julian Justvan had already set up the ball for a penalty, but the video referee took back the alleged foul by Jean Hugonet on Lukas Schleimer.

With a clean shot from the edge of the penalty area, Livan Burcu (65th) sealed Klose’s team’s second defeat of the season in front of 31,581 spectators. In the 73rd minute, the 19-year-old striker even had the chance to make it 3-0. Alexander Nollenberger (84th) made up for it with a fantastic long-range shot before Philipp Hercher (90th+2) put the finishing touches on the game.

Nuremberg made some highly risky bad passes when moving forward. Magdeburg only took advantage of this once in the first 45 minutes. The Franconians came out of the dressing room with aplomb. After a corner from Caspar Jander, neither Finn Jeltsch with his head nor Schleimer (54th) with his foot could push the ball over the line. The left post was in the way once. Magdeburg then struck with ice-cold precision.
