SENEGAL-POLITICS / Amadou Ba launches ”New Responsibility”, his political party – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, August 9 (APS) – Former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, an unsuccessful candidate in the presidential election of March 24, officially launched his political party called “New Responsibility” in Dakar on Monday, marking a break with the Alliance for the Republic (APR), Macky Sall’s party, APS noted.

The launching ceremony of this political party took place under an imposing marquee set up in a hotel in Dakar. It was necessary to jostle to access the venue of the demonstration. Activists and political figures from the twelve years of Macky Sall’s presidency took part in the political return of Amadou Ba.

“I am responding to the call of the people,” Amadou Ba immediately declared in front of activists who supported his cause.

“Since the last election campaign, there have been many calls for me to create my own political party. I have heard you, I have understood you and after a thousand thoughts, I have decided to respond to this call,” Mr. Ba continued.

With verve, he hammered home to his activists that NR “will be based on listening, dialogue, action and responsibility and will actively participate in the construction of a common future.”

According to him, the New Responsibility “will be a tool to respond to the deepest aspirations of our people, to defend social justice, peace and shared prosperity.”

“Together, we will initiate an approach based on dialogue with all components of society,” promised the former head of government under Macky Sall.

One of the leading figures of the former regime, Amadou Ba, who came second in the last presidential election, believes that Senegal is “going through a period of great expectations and countless economic and social challenges.”

“More than ever, the time has come to act. Yes, to act, not with haste, but with discernment, method and determination,” he added.

He promised to lay solid foundations by carrying out broad consultations before formalising the creation of this party “which embodies our new responsibility”.

“I propose that we begin this process together. We will first engage in dialogue, meet the vital forces of the nation, those who supported me, those who placed their trust in me, but also those who have not yet understood me or who are hesitant,” he stressed.

He asked his supporters to adopt “a different approach in a thoughtful and inclusive manner.” Amadou Ba promised to emphasize “listening and dialogue” above all.

“What builds a country is not done in a few days or a few weeks,” he said.

He sees his new political formation as a party that is not the emanation of an elite, but rather that of the entire people, rooted in the realities on the ground.

“Beyond personal ambitions, this party will serve a collective vision, anchored in the realities of our country,” stressed the former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
