Chelsea sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United

Jadon Sancho has signed for Chelsea from Manchester United.

Chelsea had until 1am to complete the transfer after submitting a deal sheet before the 11pm deadline.

The England international joins on an initial loan with the west London club having an obligation to make the switch permanent next summer for a fee in the region of £20million to £25m depending on performance milestones.

The 24-year-old will then be expected to sign a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic reported earlier on Friday that an agreement was expected to be reached to end his three-year stay in Manchester.

Sancho joins a long list of high-profile summer arrivals at Chelsea that includes the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Filip Jorgensen.

Head coach Enzo Maresca is set to deploy the attacker on the left flank after Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk failed to impress as starters in Chelsea’s opening two Premier League games.

Sancho spent the second half of last season on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund, making 21 appearances and scoring three goals.

The return to Germany followed a dispute with United manager Erik ten Hag which resulted in him being banished from first-team training.

He returned to working with the main group earlier this summer before being left out of United’s squad for both of the opening games of the Premier League season.

Ten Hag is blessed with a number of options in wide areas with Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony all featuring there so far.

Chelsea next face Crystal Palace on Sunday with Sancho’s deadline day move coming too late for him to be included.
