César Peixoto: «They didn’t let us win. There needs to be more respect for Moreirense» – Moreirense

César Peixoto believes that Moreirense were disadvantaged by the refereeing in the 1-1 home draw with Benfica, particularly in the disallowed goal against the Canons in the first half and in the penalty awarded to the Eagles to close the match. Yes, we left frustrated. We deserved the win, it is not a fair result for us despite Benfica having had more of the ball, but the goal chances were divided. They managed to disallow a goal, which for me is very doubtful, it was wrongly disallowed; they also managed to award a very questionable penalty. I am not much of a referee but today it was clearly a question of not letting us win. There needs to be more respect for Moreirense. Our players are to be congratulated, they did exactly what we planned and felt that they did not let us win. For their effort and sacrifice, for a wrongly disallowed goal and a questionable penalty, which for me is not. They had a fantastic character and I am very proud to be their coach”, he began by telling Sport TV. Peixoto also commented on the departure of André Castro, who went to FC Porto to be captain of the B team: “We know we need a left back, Castro decided to leave, we all wish him the best of luck in the world. He is an excellent professional and a man of character, while he was here he gave his all and lived up to expectations. There are only a few days left, I am very happy with the players I have here, coaches always want more and better, but I really believe in this team and the work we are doing.”
