César Peixoto points the finger at the refereeing. “They didn’t let us win”

César Peixoto believes that the referee “didn’t let” Moreirense beat Benfica. The coach of the Canons complains about a wrongly disallowed goal in the first half and a wrongly awarded penalty at the last minute.

“They managed to disallow a goal in a very dubious way and give us a very dubious penalty. They didn’t let us win”, he said, after the match of round 4 of the I Liga, in statements to Sport TV.

With this result, Moreirense now has seven points, two behind the top three – Sporting, FC Porto and Famalicão -, who have yet to play. This matchday, there is a derby between the Lions and Dragons, in Alvalade.

Game analysis: “I’m frustrated, we deserved the win. Benfica had more of the ball, but the situations were even. They managed to disallow a goal in a very dubious way and give us a penalty that was also very dubious. They didn’t let us win. The result doesn’t satisfy us, given the effort, the sacrifice, the goal that was wrongly disallowed. We need more respect. They didn’t let us win.”

We needed more ball: “We always want to have the ball, but against the big teams it’s always very difficult. But a coach always wants more, obviously, and we have areas to improve. We could have won, but we’re not done yet. We’re going to take the championship one game at a time.”

Evolution of Moreirense: “We are on the right track, we know what we want to do, what we need to improve on and the path we need to take. The team still has a lot to grow. I am very happy with my squad.”
