At the opening of the 2024 edition of the Burd, Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine reacted strongly to the statements attributed to Cheikh Oumar Diagne, Director of General Means at the Presidency of the Republic. These remarks concerned criticisms made against Mame El Hadj Malick Sy, an emblematic figure of Senegalese Sufism.

Without directly mentioning the name of Cheikh Oumar Diagne, Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine took the floor by challenging President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. He insisted on the respect and warm welcome that the city of Tivaouane has always reserved for its guests, including state officials. In his remarks, he referred to “a brother” working alongside the head of state, refusing to mention his name but assuring that his allusions would allow everyone to identify the individual in question.

According to Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine, this individual allegedly criticized the works and legacy of Sheikh Said El Hadj Malick, a revered figure in the Tijani brotherhood. The speaker denounced the disrespect shown in these statements, calling them direct attacks on their community and their spiritual guides. He went on to stress the seriousness of the situation, recalling that this same individual also allegedly made inappropriate remarks about King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

For his part, Serigne Mansour Sy Djamil supported these statements by affirming that the best response to these attacks lies in the successful organization of the next Gamou.
