The president of the parliamentary group Benno Bokk Yakaar announced before the National Assembly which was in plenary this Monday, that he will file with his group, a Motion of censure. “I solemnly announce that we will file tomorrow, a Motion of censure to bring down the government”, declared Abdou Mbow during his speech. An extraordinary session will then open after two previous ones in particular that linked to the revision of the internal regulations and the revision of the constitution on the dissolution of the Cese and the Hcct.

Indeed, the constitution, in its article 87, paragraph 3, stipulates “the National Assembly can provoke the resignation of the Government by voting a motion of censure. The motion of censure must, under penalty of inadmissibility, be signed by one tenth of the members composing the National Assembly”.

The vote on the motion of censure can only take place two clear days after it is tabled in the National Assembly.

The motion of censure is voted on by public ballot, by an absolute majority of the members composing the National Assembly; only votes in favour of the motion of censure are counted. If the motion of censure is adopted, the Prime Minister immediately submits the resignation of the Government to the President of the Republic. A new motion of censure cannot be tabled during the same session.
