Kenya – Cameroon: Marc Brys advocates vigilance

Just three days after Cameroon’s impressive victory over Kenya in Yaounde, Kampala hosts the second leg. The Indomitable Lions hope to continue their momentum and accumulate crucial points for the rest of the competition. At a press conference the day before the match, the Cameroon coach wanted to remain modest in attitude and in deeds.

Cameroon leads Group J with seven points in three matches and is getting closer to qualifying for CAN 2025. If Zimbabwe is second with five points, followed by Kenya, third with four points.

Asked about the favorite position during the press conference the day before the match, Marc Brys downplayed this hypothesis. He underlined the difficulties of facing the same opponent after a resounding victory as was the case in Yaoundé.

“There is always a risk after a good performance. Kenya are a good team, who showed quality in the first match and had some good moments. It would be stupid to underestimate them.”

The Cameroon Coach also recognized the pressure weighing on his team, which carries the hopes of his country. However, he believes his group is ready to meet expectations.

“We are very humble in our approach. Every match is an opportunity to give the best of ourselves. With 30 million Cameroonians behind us, the responsibility is great. We accept the pressure and strive to perform at our best,” he said.

Monday’s match will be played behind closed doors, a decision taken at the request of Kenyan coach Engin Firat, who feared a home crowd would rally behind Cameroon, as was the case when Zimbabwe hosted the Indomitable Lions in Uganda. Brys admitted the absence of fans could have an impact on his players.

“Playing in an empty stadium affects you. Supporters are a source of motivation and energy. Without them, it’s not the same, the players have to find this motivation within themselves,” he concludes.
