MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – We’re starting off on the soggy side this morning, with scattered showers moving in all across the Gulf Coast. This will continue later into today, with light to moderate rainfall possible at times. An isolated thunderstorm is also possible. With increased cloud cover and rain chances, temperatures will be cooler today, only maxing out in the mid-to-upper 70s.

Looking ahead to this evening, the rain will turn more isolated after 7 p.m., so high school football games are looking OK! You might just want to bring a towel or rag to wipe down the seats.

Overnight, skies will stay mostly cloudy with a 20% chance to see an isolated shower.

Heading into your Saturday, skies will continue to be mostly cloudy, but temperatures will also stay cooler in the lower-to-mid 80s, much closer to average of where we should be this time of year.

We will continue to stay dry through midweek next week. A dry cold front will move through at the beginning of next week, which will help drop our temperatures into the upper-70s and the lower-80s.

Rip current risks are low today, but HIGH tomorrow through next week. Please be cautious at our local beaches. Always know the name of the specific beach you’re located on, and where the closest lifeguard stand is.

Tracking the tropics, Kirk is a major hurricane in the Atlantic but is not a concern for any land areas. It will continue to churn in the Atlantic waters through early next week but remains a problem for the fish. We also have Tropical Storm Leslie, which is expected to become a hurricane but also remain in the central Atlantic. There is another area in the SW Gulf with moderate chances to develop over the next 7 days as it becomes an area of low pressure. This is a sloppy system and will struggle to develop after moving through the Gulf this weekend. A tropical depression could form, but regardless of development, it will still bring increased rain chances to portions of central Florida. Be cautious what you see on social media – no models are pushing towards strong development of this system.
