It wasn’t a very pleasant evening for Manuel Pellegrini and all of Real Betis. The favored team lost to Legia Warszawa 0:1 in the match of the 1st round of the Conference League (—–> RELATIONSHIP) and… to be honest, he didn’t show much.
– We expected more. We should have played faster and Legia did well in defense. I think that if we could play this match again, we would see the football in the way we expect, said coach Pellegrini at a press conference.
– We couldn’t use three key players today, which is why we weren’t able to threaten Legia’s goal. We lacked the balance and magic that these most creative players give us. I hope that our next matches will be better – admitted the Betis coach.
He also said that Legia did not surprise him in any way. He expected a difficult journey in Warsaw, and it was indeed so.
– Legia played as we expected. We knew it was a strong team with high-quality players. They played at home, where they have great support from the fans, as we saw for 90 minutes, commented coach Pellegrini.
– We knew we would play against a demanding opponent. Legia defended well and did not make any major mistakes. Legia’s defense was definitely better than ours. We lost a goal after a corner kick, although we had 6-7 options planned. There is no explanation for us,” Pellegrini concluded.
