Marcelino: “In the second half we were superior and we deserved the victory”

Vila-real (Castellón), Sep 30 (EFE).- The Villarreal coach, Marcelino García Toral, assured this Monday, after the victory against Las Palmas (3-1), that his team deserved the victory, since it was very superior to his rival in the second half.

“It was difficult for us in the first half because the opponent also played and had possession. In the second we started with an avoidable goal, but the team recovered well,” commented the coach, who recalled that Villarreal had “enough chances” to have decided the game earlier.

The coach did not want to individualize the victory in the figure of Álex Baena and highlighted the “fluidity” and “criterion” that the team had in the second half.

“We generate a lot and waste a penalty or an action in which we prematurely mark offside. If you’re not a team, you don’t win. And we were that until the end,” he added.

The coach described Baena as a differential player and revealed that the Almeria native’s launch was not agreed upon. “I will try to be more specific in the choice next time,” he noted.

The Spaniard, who thanked the fans for their support, was very satisfied with the team’s performance, which has added 17 points and is third in the table, but avoided setting qualification for the next Champions League as Villarreal’s priority objective.

“We would all have agreed to be like this after having already played with Barcelona and Atlético. We are progressing and we are doing well for a team with so many changes. We transmit enthusiasm and passion,” concluded Marcelino, who revealed that Denis Suárez was substituted at half-time due to a muscle injury. EFE
