Dortmund (dpa) – Two goals and a penalty taken – thanks to Serhou Guirassy, Borussia Dortmund were spared their second effective goal within a few days. After the hard-fought 4:2 (1:2) in the small Revierderby against VfL Bochum, the new signing was celebrated as the match winner. “He gives us exactly what we hoped for from him. He is a very important player for us – and he will get even better,” enthused BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl.
After a week-long break caused by a knee injury, the striker is getting better and better and has scored four goals in four competitive games so far. When Borussia was threatened with a similar frustration after the 2-0 deficit in the 21st minute as in the 5-1 defeat in Stuttgart, Guirassy proved to be a savior in an emergency. It wasn’t just his two goals (44th/75th minute) that contributed to the successful comeback. In a duel with former Dortmund player Felix Passlack, the 28-year-old could only be stopped by a foul. Emre Can (61′) safely converted the penalty.
Nuri Sahin deserved special praise for Guirassy’s strong performance: “We are all very happy that he is with us. “I’m not only happy with the way he scores the goals, but also with the way he carries himself,” commented the Dortmund coach, referring to the great ambition and team usefulness of the newcomer from Stuttgart. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who caused Bochum’s second goal with a mistake, was similarly positive: “He’s a winner and a very clever player.”
