Napoli qualified for the round of 16 of the Italian Cup by outclassing Palermo (5-0).

Naples won the last ticket to the round of 16 of the Italian Cup by crushing Palermo 5-0 on Thursday.

Building on its good start to the season in the league (2nd with ten points) and despite the late entries of several regular starters like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Romelu Lukaku, Napoli, reinvigorated by Antonio Conte, did not made of details with two goals in the first quarter of an hour from Belgian Cyril Ngonge (7 and 12th minutes). Juan Jesus headed the score to 3-0 just before the break.

Palermo, reduced to ten in the 58th, conceded two additional goals, the first of which came in the Napoli jersey of Scotsman Scott McTominay. This derby in the South of Italy was, as is often the case, hectic in the stands, the kick-off of the second half was delayed by seven minutes due to firecrackers and smoke bombs being thrown between ultras.

In the round of 16 in December, Naples will face Lazio, who will enter the competition like the other seven teams in the top 8 of the previous season. In the other meeting of the evening, Monza logically dominated Brescia 3 to 1.

Only three teams from the 2nd division, Cesena, Sassuolo and Sampdoria have made it past the round of 16 stage. They will be opposed in the next round respectively to Atalanta Bergamo, AC Milan and AS Roma. Juventus Turin, title holders, will face Cagliari.
