Barça goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen was taken off on a stretcher on Sunday on the Villarreal pitch in La Liga. The German international was taken to hospital with a knee injury.

Barça is rolling but has lost its captain. Led by its strong men Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, FC Barcelona recorded its sixth victory in six La Liga matches on Sunday on the pitch of Villarreal (1-5), at the end of a crazy match that could have tipped in favor of the locals.

Beaten on Thursday in Monaco for its Champions League debut (2-1), the Catalan club continues its flawless run in the championship and consolidates its first place with 18 points and 22 goals scored in six games, still four lengths ahead of Real Madrid (2nd, 14 points). But Barça lost its German goalkeeper and captain Marc-André Ter Stegen, who was taken off on a stretcher, visibly injured in the right knee (45th + 2).

An eight-month unavailability?

With his hands on his face and on the verge of tears, the Catalan captain was carried off on a stretcher before being taken to hospital for tests. While no diagnosis has been made, the trends in the Spanish media are divergent. According to Cadena Cope, the patellar tendon in his knee is affected. For Catalunya Radio, an absence of at least eight months could be considered, which would mean the end of the season.
