The Torch of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games embodies a fusion of tradition and innovation, designed in partnership with ArcelorMittal, the world leader in steel. To meet the demands of modern design, Paris 2024 collaborated with French designer Mathieu Lehanneur, who imagined a torch that was both elegant and durable. Only 2,000 torches were manufactured, five fewer than for previous editions, using low-carbon steel, produced at three ArcelorMittal sites in France.

The Flame will ignite a new Paralympic cauldron at the Opening Ceremony on 28 August 2024, marking the start of two weeks of intense celebration leading up to the closing of the Paralympic Games on 8 September.

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic cauldronfor its part, integrates innovative technology for an environmentally friendly “flame”. Rather than using fossil fuels, it works thanks to a system combining electricity and water. A series of 40 LEDs illuminate water vapor generated by 200 high-pressure misting nozzles, creating the illusion of a floating flame in the night sky. This design is inspired by the hot air balloons of the Montgolfier brothers, symbolizing innovation and French history.

The Paralympic cauldron will be lit and accessible to the public from August 29 to September 7 at the Tuilleries Garden. Like the Olympic cauldron, it will take off every evening into the Parisian sky.
