Senegal will face Burundi in Lilongwe (Malawi) this Monday, September 9 (1 p.m. GMT) for the second day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers (Group L). The Lions left Dakar on Saturday, the day after their draw (1-1) against Burkina Faso at the Abdoulaye-Wade stadium in Diamniadio. Their delegation was deprived of a high-ranking leader: Abdoulaye Sow, second vice-president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).

«He was blocked at the AIBD on the night of Friday to Saturday,” Les Échos reported in its Monday edition. The newspaper believes that he is thus subject to the ban on leaving the national territory that hangs over the heads of “all the dignitaries of the former regime”, “almost all of whom are stuck in Senegall», “without court decision, without notification”.

Abdoulaye Sow was the Minister of Urban Planning at the end of Macky Sall’s presidency. He is used to accompanying the men of Aliou Cissé, the national coach, during the Lions’ international meetings. He is not part of the game for the second day of qualifying.
